Works commence to the UCD Oakmount Crèche

Building works have recently commenced to expand the UCD Oakmount Crèche which will see the current facility increase in capacity from 60 to 100 children.

This will generate additional facilities within which each child is supported in developing their potential at their own pace while fostering a process of exploration within an educational, play-based atmosphere.

Funding for the project has been partially provided through the National Development Plan 2007-2013 under the National Childcare Investment Programme 2006-2010.

Physical learning environments contribute to child development and can create a positive influence by promoting child-directed and child-initiated play.

Designed by ABA Architects, the extended high-quality child care facility will create an environment that will assist and support, rather than impede children's development. The crèche ambiance, layout, acoustics, lighting, equipment and furnishings are designed to have a valuable and beneficial impact on children's learning and behaviour.

The design of outdoor spaces can support the curriculum and integrate recreation with classroom activities, and these works compliment the recently installed all-weather play-safe surface. The provision of new toys, climbing frames and a bamboo maze has generated an exciting environment for children to play and learn.
