University Refurbish Research Accommodation in Science and Engineering Buildings
UCD was awarded €10 million in 2008 to redevelop its existing Science & Engineering facilities under the HEA Research Facilities Enhancement Scheme (RFES), which was designed to address shortfalls in research infrastructure in third level institutions across the country.
Focused on research facilities, the RFES serves to advance the University’s science and engineering strategic priorities by increasing research capacity, developing fit-for-purpose laboratory and write-up facilities, and by supporting the co-location of complimentary activities.
The development facilitates a range of funded research programmes including SFI Strategic Research Clusters, Stokes and CSET’s.
Aligned with the masterplan for the overall Science Centre, the renovated accommodation will allow research to flourish across the disciplines of ICT, molecular biology, synthetic chemistry, nano-science and will also provide specialist laser laboratories.
The layout and design of the new works have greatly enhanced the working environment, increasing the overall space utilisation the consolidation and integration of the sciences.
