The New UCD Global Lounge
UCD continues to make education accessible to a much wider student demographic by providing new and flexible modes of study and by adapting the University building portfolio to meet the individual and changing needs of a diverse student body.
The ability to attract international students is significantly influenced by the provision of a comprehensive range of campus support services. The ongoing development of the UCD Restaurant Building has now delivered a suite of resources designed to accommodate both the local and International student community at a high profile location on the Belfield Campus.
Located on the lower floor, the new attractive Global Lounge is a friendly relaxed social space for students, and acts as a dedicated venue for seminars, receptions, talks and other international events. Designed by Fitzgerald Kavanagh and Partners, the Global Lounge acts as a focal point at the heart of the academic and social life of the Campus. The provision of flexible seating, multi-use meeting and seminar spaces adjacent to the International Office administrative hub will support increasing numbers of international students, and expanded opportunities for students’ mobility and exchange.
The new hub provides the University with additional spaces to socialise in comfortable surroundings with access to practical information about life as a student at UCD and as a new member of the wider Dublin community.

Designed by Scott Tallon Walker, the original UCD Restaurant Building was awarded the Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of Architects Ireland in 1970. In recent years the provision of distributed catering facilities across the Belfield Campus has enabled the building to evolve and support a diverse array of campus activities.
