UCD Science Centre Update
The recent erection of hoarding at Science marks the beginning of the next phase of the overall UCD Science Centre development.
The capacity and quality of Ireland’s higher education system is vital to our social, cultural and economic well-being. Funded by the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutes 4 (PRTLI), this section of the overall UCD Science Centre Development will include the refurbishment of existing building and the construction of a new four storey state-of-the-art extension.

Science Centre South will enable the establishment of a critical mass of science graduates and will provide researchers with the tools and resources they need to make the cutting-edge discoveries in the fields of biopharm, food & health and bio-nano sciences. The building will support the University’s goal to develop leaders who will become effective global stewards, and contribute to the generation of practical solutions to today’s complex scientific issues.
It is essential that UCD continues to put in place a robust research infrastructure to effectively support research initiatives and applications, to grow and develop the research capabilities of staff and communicate outputs and successes to wider stakeholder groups. The University also promotes the development of skills to exploit the opportunities of a knowledge society who will be educated in a research intensive environment with access to the latest opportunities.

Hoarding around the UCD Science Centre
In anticipation of the modernization and transformation of the UCD Science Centre, Science Centre South will provide flexible and multidisciplinary laboratory spaces that will be able to easily adapt to changes in equipment technology and the growth of research neighbourhoods that occupy them. This next phase of work is due for completion in late 2010.
