UCD Sutherland School of Law
The UCD Sutherland School of Law is the largest and most diverse Law School in Ireland and is strongly committed to the development and the creation of new initiatives, to enriching the educational environment of its student body, to working in partnership with the practising legal profession and to establishing a major, well-regarded and authoritative presence in the international legal community.
In order to meet these objectives and improve its ability to attract international students, the University proposes to develop a new fit for purpose building providing all the teaching, research and administrative space and ICT infrastructure necessary. These new facilities involve a relocation of the School to a more central location on the campus and will enable the School to foster a community environment. Designed by Moloney O'Bernie architects, the new building will create modern and innovative space for the learning and practising of legal skills that does not currently exist in Ireland, and will benefit students, academics and the legal profession. It will also benefit those who engage with or require access to clinical legal training including mediators, expert witnesses (e.g. medical, forensic, and economic) and members of tribunals and other bodies of enquiry.
The UCD Sutherland School of Law will contribute significantly to national higher education and UCD strategies by:
- Increasing the quality, scope and scale of research and teaching activity at the School of Law;
- Integrating the School of Law with other Schools, supporting accessibility, flexibility, and problem based learning;
- Building a School of Law community and environment with world class infrastructure in which staff and students work together and flourish;
- Deepening links with the legal profession and wider society, providing facilities and developing activities which benefit the profession, students and staff;
The new building is projected to be complete in September 2013 and will finally bring all legal education at UCD together under one roof.
