Evidence and research suggests that programmes of careers education that are interactive in nature, less focussed on delivering information are particularly beneficial to students. As a result, wherever possible, the sessions we offer are predicated on Kolb's cycle of experiential learning which is still used in many models of, for example, Personal Development Planning:

The Career Development Centre offers student's non-credit bearing Certificates of Participation for active engagement in some programmes. For example, students completing the Corporate Finance Study Visit to City of London spend one week undertaking case studies, role plays, workshops at investment banks and financial institutions.
Similarly, students who complete a 7 week programme of career management skills training on areas such as team work, leadership, emotional intelligence, networking for success, CV building, interview techniques and assessment centres also receive a Certificate of Participation.
Should you wish to develop provision of career-related events and offer students' recognition but not in the form of academic credits, please contact Dr David Foster, Director of the Career Development Centre.
Credit Bearing Awards - Personal and Career Development Planning Modules
Based upon best practice in countries such as Australia and in the UK, the Career Development Centre has been actively working in partnership with Schools to integrate credit bearing personal and career development planning into the Curriculum. In doing so, these developments have been seen to help meet certain strategic needs of Schools and the career and personal development needs of students. Carrying up to 5 credits, modules are presently offered to students in:
- Psychology (final year)
- Information and Library Studies (second or third year)
- Computer Science (first year)
- Graduate Certificate in ICT
- Certificate in ICT
- Graduate Certificate in Biopharma and Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Nursing (final year)
If you are interested in developing a career development and personal planning module or seeking to customise an existing module to include a careers element, please contact Dr. David Foster, Director of the UCD Career Development Centre (david.foster@ucd.ie).
