Frequently Asked Questions

We’re sure you have lots of questions! We’ve tried to answer some of the most common questions that we get asked here but if you’ve diligently read through these and still don’t have an answer please contact Rebecca at skillsaward@ucd.ie

Q. I have applied for an award on SISweb, however, I am listed as pre-registered and cannot sign in to begin work on my award submission. Why?

A. If you are still listed as pre-registered, this is because you have not attended a mandatory induction session. You can book onto an upcoming session via UCD Careers Connect. You will find the induction sessions under the "Events" tab.

Q.I recently completed a personal development module for academic credit. Can I use this as part of my award application?

A. No, unfortunately you cannot use any experiences for which you received academic credit in your award submission, for example modules or internships that are part of your academic programme.

Q. I am a final year student, do I still have a full calendar year to submit my application for the UCD Advantage Award?

A. No, unfortunately you don’t. You must submit your UCD Advantage Award application before Friday 19 April 2019 to ensure we have time to review your submission and send details of your successful application to UCD Registry for inclusion on the Diploma Supplement that you will receive at graduation.

Q. Is there a certain amount of time I need to spend on a co-curricular activity in order for it to count towards an Award?

A. No, we are not prescriptive about the amount of time you need to spend on a particular activity. Achievement of the awards is about your development and learning, not the number of hours you put into something. However, generally speaking, the more you put in, the more you get out and it’s often the case that the more time you spend on a particular activity the more you develop as a result.

Q. Do you check that I’ve done what I’ve said I did?

A. Yes. When you add details of a co-curricular activity, we ask you to include details of a referee who will validate your involvement. The system will generate an e-mail to your referee, containing the information you have entered (name of the activity, what you did, how long you spent on it etc.). S/he will be requested to click a button on the e-mail confirming that what you have said is true.

Q. I signed up to complete UCD Embark but feel I have enough experience to complete UCD Advantage, can I move awards once I have started?

A. Yes, there is the possibility of changing from UCD Embark to UCD Advantage and vice versa. To change award please email Rebecca at skillsaward@ucd.ie

Q. Can I use any experience outside UCD to help me achieve the UCD Advantage award?

A. Yes. One example of additional experience which has taken place outside of UCD can be used as evidence when submitting your application for the UCD Advantage Award.

You cannot use any experience outside UCD to support your UCD Embark application.

Q. I have signed up for the award but I have changed my mind and I am no longer able to complete. Can I cancel my registration?

A. If you wish to cancel your registration please email Rebecca at skillsaward@ucd.ie

Q. Are these awards open to graduates?

A. No. These awards are solely for current UCD students.
