The Career Development Centre will be closed all day on Monday 14th May and Tuesday 15th May 2012 for staff training and there will be no quick query service on those days. We will re-open at 9am on Wednesday 16th May.

STUDENT HELPERS REQUIRED - 3 HOURS WORK PER EVENING (MON-THURS) OVER NEXT 2-3 WEEKS
Every year UCD is required to conduct a survey of the previous year’s graduates and provide information on their current employment status to the Higher Education Authority (HEA). This surveyis undertaken by the Career Development Centre and data is gathered via online questionnaire, paper-based questionnaire and telephone survey.
We are currently seeking student helpers to conduct the survey, over the coming weeks. The work will involve 3 hours of calls per evening (Monday to Thursday), between 5 and 8pm. Data captured on each call will be entered directly into the online survey system. A standard rate of €9.40 per hour applies but there will also be a weekly bonus for the caller who completes the most online records.
If you are interested in this opportunity please email sorcha.mulcahy@ucd.ie confirming your availability Monday to Thursday, 5-8pm over the next 3 weeks and including your mobile phone number. All callers will need to undertake one hour of training prior to starting work. There will be daily call targets to be achieved.

10 PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATES/STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH AHEAD WAM PROGRAMME
The AHEAD WAM Programme now has 10 work placement opportunities available for graduates (and final year students) with disabilities with ESB & Abbott Ireland.
The placements are for a full time working week, are paid, mentored and for a period of 6 months. The placements are available across a variety of disciplines and in the following companies: ESB (Dublin) & Abbott Ireland (Tipperary).

UCD OFFERING 3 SCHOLARSHIPS TO UNIVERSITAS 21 SUMMER SCHOOL IN MEXICO
The 2012 Universitas 21 summer school will take place at the Technólogico de Monterrey's Queretaro campus, Mexico, from 7 July to 18 July 2012, with the theme of 'Shaping the Global Future Entrepreneur'.

CONGRATULATIONS TO IAN WOOD - RUNNER UP OF NATIONAL STUDENT CHALLENGE
Ian Woods from UCD emerged triumphant on Wednesday after coming second in the Final of the gradireland National Student Challenge in UCD Quinn Business School. Ian placed second out of 60 competing finalists, having completed a series of six Challenges set by leading graduate employers to test key employability skills. Winner David Galbraith from Queen's University Belfast won €1,000. Eimear Ellis from Trinity College Dublin came second and won €500.

EU GRADUATE CAREERS: OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS FROM 15th MARCH
On 15th March the 2012 selection procedure to find new graduate level recruits to work at the EU Institutions opens for applications.
The roles available are in five fields: European Public Administration (a wide range of policy and programme management posts); Law; Audit; Communication and External Relations. Undergraduates and recent graduates are eligible to apply for these roles at ‘AD 5’ grade. Undergraduates can apply in their final year of study as long as they will graduate/receive their degree by 31st July 2012.
Although there are no nationality quotas or attention paid to nationality through the assessment process, the EU is particularly seeking applicants from Ireland as it has recently been consistently under-represented in terms of the number of applications received.

IRISH UNIVERSITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP FORUM - 29TH MARCH
The "Irish University Entrepreneurship Forum" (IUEF) is a new initiative which aims to develop and encourage entrepreneurship in third level education.
The IUEF, which is non-profit and wholly student-run, is focused on providing a channel of communication between the business network in Ireland and active entrepreneurs at university level. At the event, on the evening of 29 March, eight student entrepreneurs will present their business by way of a five-minute presentation to an audience of business leaders. After the presentations, a Q&A discussion, coordinated by Ivan Yates, will be held in order to give the business leaders in attendance an opportunity to provide feedback and advice. Following this, a drinks reception serves to offer the entrepreneurs an opportunity to directly connect and discuss ideas with the business leaders in attendance. The winners of the 2011 E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year, Niall Norton and Joe Hogan from Openet, will be guest speakers at the event.

UCD PHYSICS UNDERGRADUATE LABORATORY SUMMER EXPERIENCE 2012
The UCD School of Physics will be offering a number of Summer Internships in 2012. The a list of potential projects in various research groups are listed below. A stipend of approximately 650 Euro will be paid per student. Students at all undergraduate levels are encouraged to apply, but priority will be given to those in their penultimate year.

JobBridge, the National Internship Scheme, which forms part of the Government’s new Jobs Initiative, is administered by FAS on behalf of the Department of Social Protection. BECOME THE UCD 'EU CAREERS AMBASSADOR'
As part of an exciting initiative to promote careers with the EU institutions, the European Personnel Selection Office are looking for student representatives from top academic Universities across Europe. They are looking to find one student to become their 'Ambassador' and promote EU Careers on the UCD Campus from autumn 2012 until autumn 2013. During that time you will receive regular guidance from EPSO. They are looking for motivated candidates with excellent communication skills.
