Volunteering

Volunteering allows you to ‘give something back’ and make a difference within a community while also gaining experience and developing skills that will enhance your employability, such as communication, teamwork, leadership, self-reliance and emotional intelligence. For students of certain academic disciplines, for example Psychology and Social Science, voluntary work can be a great way to acquire the experience required to pursue careers in related areas. For more information on why volunteering is a good idea and how to get started read our Volunteering article in the UCD Career Guide.

There are plenty of volunteering opportunities at home and abroad, with several right here on your doorstep at UCD, for example: UCD Volunteers OverseasUCD SVPCamara and Niteline.

Check out the studentvolunteer.ie website for more information on volunteering at UCD and further afield, as well as resources to help you find volunteering opportunities that match your interests, passions, skills and causes.

If you are interested in volunteering in Ireland, Activelink and Volunteering Ireland advertise hundreds of opportunities. You can also check out the websites of charities such Focus Ireland and the Simon Community.
