Research Interests
| Current Research (UCD): Machine learning: Development of novel cluster analysis and semi-supervised learning algorithms, with a particular focus on their application in text mining tasks, including document clustering and sentiment analysis. Social network analysis: Development of dynamic community finding techniques for the identification and tracking of groups present in large-scale social networks. Social media analysis: Application of dynamic clustering algorithms and related visualization procedures to identify trending topics in social media content. Bioinformatics: Exploration of gene expression datasets, protein-protein interaction networks, and genetic interaction maps. This work is undertaken as part of the SFI-funded Clique Research Cluster at UCD. PhD Thesis (Trinity College Dublin): A State-of-the-Art Toolkit for Document Clustering This work provides a new framework supporting the development of applications for exploratory text mining tasks. As well as allowing researchers to apply popular learning algorithms to large document collections, the framework introduces a variety of novel data analysis procedures based on kernel learning, cluster ensembles, and matrix decomposition methods. |
