Director's Welcome

Thank you for your interest and I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to University College Dublin’s Institute for Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Computational Physical and Biological Science and known as the Complex Adaptive Systems Laboratory (CASL).

Established in 2006, CASL is a major strategic investment within Ireland and is the flagship interdisciplinary research and educational Institute in Applied Mathematics, Computational Science and Informatics.  CASL is a highly collaborative environment, collocating 30 Principal Investigators and 170 Postgraduates and Post doctorates from nine different academic disciplines.  Since 2006 CASL has raised in excess of €50m from a variety of external sources through continued excellence in national and international research and innovation.

Our mission is to become a globally recognized institute in applied mathematics, computational science and informatics, extracting value from data that will provide insight and innovations to help manage major national and global challenges through computational modeling and data intensive science.

I am especially proud of all our achievements in such a short space of time and I am very optimistic about the future of CASL and the role of the Institute in translating our research into meaningful outcomes that benefits the global citizen.  I encourage you to navigate through our website to learn more about our researchers, our exciting research and our excellent educational programmes.

Please feel free to see me about any ideas, opportunities or suggestions you may have, I can be reached at david.coker@ucd.ie

Your Sincerely,

Prof David Coker
