Launch International Alliance for NanoEHS Harmonization

Monday, 1 September 2008

Nanotechnology provides the opportunity for enabling new products that could meet a wide range of societal needs, but concerns over potential environmental, health and safety of these materials may limit their adoption.

At the Nanotox 2008 Conference in Zurich on the 9th of September, the formation of the International Alliance for NanoEHS Harmonization (IANH) was announced to conference participants and members of the press. This group of internationally recognized experts has agreed to develop specific tools and testing protocols, and perform a set of round robin experiments to lay the foundation for reproducible testing of nanomaterial biological interactions and toxicology and establish protocols that would be shared with other researchers and explore potential correlations between cell based test and effects in organisms.
