Nanotoxicity: Divided We Stand

The complexity of the interactions of nanoparticles with cells complicates the elucidation of nanoparticle toxicity. Nanoparticle properties such as size, aggregation state, and surface functionalization all influence the cellular response. Now, Kim et al. [(2011) Nat. Nanotechnol.7, 62] show that the cell cycle also plays a role in nanoparticle uptake and potentially toxicity. [more]
