Dr. Fabian Meder

joined the Centre for BioNano Interactions in October 2013 and is a fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG, project ME 4296/1-1) since April 2014. His project involves the development and design of tailored multifunctional nanoparticles to trigger specific responses of biological species towards nanoobjects. This facilitates the targeting of specific biomolecules under serum conditions including receptor molecules on cell surfaces. In addition, he will characterise how multifunctional nanomaterial surface modifications influence the assembly of a protein corona and cellular uptake.

Fabian obtained his engineering degree in Bio- and Nanotechnology in 2008 from the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, Germany which included a one year research period at the Swiss Federal Laboratories of Materials Science and Technology (EMPA), Switzerland. He subsequently undertook his PhD at the University of Bremen, Germany with Professor Kurosch Rezwan’s Advanced Ceramics group. His interdisciplinary doctoral thesis investigated the influence that type and grafting density of nanoparticles’ functional surface groups have on their controlled interactions with proteins, peptides, and viruses.
