The conference will be held at the new UCD Science Centre. Opened in September 2013, the new Science Centre will be a transformational resource for Irish science. The Centre houses 6 major lecture theatres, 33 teaching laboratories, 16 classrooms, 30 small meeting/breakout areas, a large glass atrium ideal for exhibitions.

UCD is located on a leafy 133-hectare campus close to Dublin’s city centre, which provides a mix of academic facilities, research institutes, libraries and archival collections, enterprise space, student villages, and sports and recreational facilities.

Travelling to UCD

Dublin airport is approx. 20 km from UCD. There are frequent connecting buses from the airport to the city centre, including a special shuttle service, Airlink, which brings passengers directly to Busáras (Central Bus Station, Dublin).

Bus - Aircoach

Aircoach operates a service from Dublin Airport to Leopardstown which passes UCD. Look for the blue AIRCOACH sign and ask the driver for the UCD/MONTROSE HOTEL stop. Coaches leave every 15 minutes and you can purchase your ticket on the coach or online in advance (€15 return). To return to the airport, you can board the coach from the stop at the main entrance to UCD (N11/Stillorgan Road). The Aircoach stop is a 5 minute walk from the UCD Science Centre.

Bus - Dublin Bus

The University is situated about 6 kilometres from the city centre and is well served by Dublin Bus.

Dublin Bus numbers 11, 17, 39A, 46A, 47, and 145 all provide services to the Belfield campus from the city centre. It costs approx. €2.50 to go to the city centre from UCD and you need to have the exact fare in coins as the driver will not give change.

Dublin is served by two main railway stations: Connolly Station and Heuston Station. It is a short walk from Connolly Station to O'Connell Street, where the Dublin Bus number 46A can be boarded for UCD. Dublin Bus route 145 from Dublin Heuston serves UCD's main entrance.


The 'DART' is a train that runs north/south along the Dublin coastline, from Howth to Greystones.
The nearest DART station to UCD is Sydney Parade (20-25 mins walk). You can get the DART from
the city centre at Connolly station, Pearse station or at Tara Street station. The nearest DART station to UCD is Sydney Parade, where it is a 25 minute walk to UCD.


There are usually an adequate number of taxis in operation in the city centre at any given time. It is possible to hail a taxi from the street, but convenient taxi ranks are located on O'Connell Street, Middle Abbey Street, Dame Street and St Stephens Green.

A taxi from the airport to UCD costs about €35 and takes about 30-45 minutes.
Typically, a fare from UCD to the city centre costs about €10.
