Professor Joe Carthy RTE news

On Friday 10th May 2013, Professor Joe Carthy, Director of UCD CCI, appeared on RTE Six One news to comment on the recent $45m ATM cybercrime fraud, which affected 27 countries from Canada to Russia. Professor Carthy explained how "there is a magnetic strip on the back of traditional plastic cards, with the information stored on that strip (your account number and those kind of details), and that's relatively easy to duplicate. But with chip and pin cards (which are used here in Ireland and many other countries), there is a computer processing chip on the card, and it's quite difficult to duplicate".
