UCD Celtic Studies

A degree in Celtic Studies offers students the prospect of acquiring an understanding of many dimensions of Celtic languages and civilizations and of the most fundamental aspects of Irish culture as represented in our language, history, folklore and archaeology.

The course programme for the BA in Celtic Studies usually involves the study of three of the subjects listed below in the
second and final undergraduate years. One subject is chosen as a major and two others as minor subjects. The individual subjects can be combined in a wide variety of ways whereby the major subject can be a language (Early Irish, Modern Irish, Welsh) or Irish Folklore or Archaeology or Early Irish History.

To be admitted to one of the Celtic Studies programmes the student must have chosen from a certain range of relevant subjects in the first year. It is important that students consult the Arts (Undergraduate Courses) booklet for details of these subject options.
