Welcome to the Solution State NMR Service section of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology website.

Solution State NMR Service:

Solution-state NMR is a widely used technique for investigating and characterising chemical species.  NMR experiments can be designed to provide information on conformational geometry, molecular motion, component composition of mixtures and details of low and high temperature effects.  The technique is non destructive and the sample can be recovered if required.  It is necessary that the material is soluble in one of a wide range of deuterated solvents.  Training can also be provided on our instruments run under automation and access is available at all times including weekends.  We can also provide electronic copies of all data providing the user has access to NMR processing software.

NMR Instrumentation:

Varian NMR System 600MHz Spectrometer
Varian NMR System 500MHz Spectrometer
Varian Inova 500MHz Spectrometer
Varian NMR System 400MHz Spectrometer
Varian NMR System 300 MHz Spectrometer

 Solution-State-NMR

Varian 500 and 600

Varian Inova 500Mhz

The spectrometers are equipped with a range of 5mm multi-nuclear gradient probes with triple-resonance, inverse and direct detection. Variable temperature is also a feature of these probes.

Experiments provided on a routine basis under automation are:
1H, C13, other nuclei e.g. F19, P31.

2-D-experiments:
COSY, HSQC, HMBC, TOCSY

All other experiments e.g. NOESY, ROESY, Variable Temperature etc. would be run in consultation with the expert team available in the NMR Centre.
