Biography:
M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Bologna 1998 (Prof. G. Cainelli). PhD from the University of Bologna 2002 (Supervisor Prof. S. Sandri). Visiting student at Trinity College Dublin (2001) in Prof. Thorrfinnur Gunnlaugsson's lab. 2002-2005: Postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Paul Engel at the University College Dublin, School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science 2006. Appointed college lecturer in Chemical Biology at UCD, School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology |
Research Interests
| Alcohol dehydrogenases from Extremophiles: I am interested in alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) for their ability to reduce ketones to chiral alcohols, valuable products for the pharmaceutical industry as well as the cosmetic and food industries. Also their application as mild oxidant of alcohols in industrial processes is a field of growing interest. Also among my research interests: Immobilization of dehydrogenases on solid supports for applications in organic synthesis. Synthesis of antibiotics analogues of anticapsin and their activity screening. Synthesis or conformationally restrained amino acids and peptides for structural investigation as well as biological evaluation.
