Research Interests
| 1. Design, preparation and evaluation of the biological activity of 1,4-benzoquinone ligands and their silver and gold complexes, particularly their antitumour, cytotoxic and antiparasitic properties (with Dr Jane Irwin, UCD Veterinary Science. 2. Evaluation of the efficacy of inorganic dyes as light harvesting media in dye-sensitized solar cells (Gratzel cells 3. Investigation of the geometric and electronic factors which promote magnetic switching between spin states in manganese(III) and iron(III) complexes. 4. Design of main group and transition metal complexes for fixation of CO2 and subsequent heteroeneous catalytic conversion to high value oxygenated hydrocarbons by reaction with molecular hydrogen (in collaboration with Dr James Sullivan, UCD Chemistry & Chemical Biology. |
