Biography:
Heterogeneous Catalysts in Environmental Applications and in Energy Generation BSc in Chemistry, UCC 1992 |
Research Interests
| We study the synthesis, characterisation and application of heterogeneous catalysis in the areas of environmental chemistry and energy generation.
The second strand of research involves the use of heterogeneous catalysts in energy generation. Ongoing energy related projects are listed below;
The lab is equipped with several plug flow and batch reactors and analytical equipment (GCs with FID and TCD detection, HPLC, We also have significant amounts of dedicated equipment for catalyst characterisation; in-situ DRIFT (with MCT detection), in situ Raman spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric analysis (coupled to The research has been funded by In the past the laboratory has also been engaged, with an industrial collaborator (Specialised Metals Ltd.), in the development of techniques for recycling precious metals from spent automotive catalysts and electronic components.
