Best Paper Prize at 2012 International Conference on Weigh-In-Motion held in Dallas

Monday, 5 September, 2016

Cathal Leahy, a PhD student in the School, has won the ‘Best Paper – Young Researcher’ at the 6th International Conference on Weigh-In-Motion held in Dallas last June. This conference brings together the world’s leading academics and practitioners in the field of Weigh-In-Motion (gathering traffic loading data and applying it to bridge and pavement engineering).  Cathal’s paper, titled ‘Portable Bridge WIM Data Collection Strategy for Secondary Roads’, proposed novel strategies for collecting truck loading data on secondary roads, an area where very little is known about truck loading. Cathal’s research is supervised by Prof Eugene OBrien (UCD) and Bernard Enright (DIT) and focuses on using Weigh-In-Motion data to predict extreme traffic loading on bridges.
