PhD student selected to present at the prestigious Falling Walls Lab

Julie Clarke, an IRCSET funded PhD student in the School, was selected to present at the prestigious Falling Walls Lab held in Berlin on November 8th. The Falling Walls Lab gathers international breakthrough researchers, change makers and young entrepreneurs, to showcase their visionary ideas, initiatives and scientific findings. Julie was awarded a scholarship to present her research to 100 young researchers from 38 different nations. Her presentation, entitled 'Breaking the Wall of Heritage Protection', described how her research aims to protect historic buildings during adjacent tunnelling works by developing a novel risk assessment procedure for masonry structures. Julie is an active member of Prof. Debra Laefer’s Urban Modelling Group.
