Attention all First year Classics Students!
Take control of your career!
Are you starting to think about what sort of jobs you might like to do after you graduate? Would you like to develop skills that will be of use to you during your time at UCD and when you enter the employment market? Would you like to take a positive step towards achieving your career goals?
If the answer is yes, we invite you to sign up for the “Career Management for Arts Students” programme. This programme consists of four x 2 hour workshops, beginning on Thursday the 9th of February at 3pm in room F102 in the Newman Building. All four workshops are highly interactive in nature and will feature top graduate recruiters Google and Deloitte Consulting. Students who attend all four workshops will be presented with a certificate of attendance.
You can register for the programme at the Reception desk of the Career Development Centre (on the ground floor of the Library Building). Please note that places are limited so you are advised to register as soon as possible. For queries please contact careers@ucd.ie
Workshop 1: Focus on you: Becoming aware of your skills and attributes
9th February
Being aware of your own skills and attributes provides the foundation for effective career management as well as personal and professional development. Prior to attending this workshop you will complete the ‘Profiling for Success’ suite of psychometric tests. In the workshop you will participate in a range of interactive exercises and activities aimed at helping you to better understand your personal strengths and development areas and to relate these to your career ambitions.
Workshop 2: Off-line to on-line marketing challenge (delivered by Google)
16th February
In this workshop you will work on a challenge to create an on-line marketing strategy for a company that has previously only marketed their products off-line. This workshop will provide the opportunity for you to demonstrate and enhance skills such as Teamwork, Communication, Leadership, Problem-Solving and Commercial Awareness.
Workshop 3: A taste of consulting (Deloitte Consulting)
23rd February
This workshop will provide you with an opportunity to try your hand at management consulting and develop valuable knowledge and skills in the process, such as Time Management, Presentation skills, Analytical Thinking, and Client Focus.
Workshop 4: Bringing it all together: Identifying skills and action planning
1st March
In the final workshop you will reflect on what you have learned over the previous three weeks. You will complete a skills audit to identify the skills that you currently possess and will begin to develop an action plan for developing the additional skills and experience you will need to compete successfully for graduate jobs in the future.
