Prof. Philip Hardie, Senior Fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge, will be giving a lecture on "Milton as reader of Ovid's Metamorphoses" at 5pm on Thursday 12th April 2012 in the HII seminar room. All are welcome.
Prof. Hardie has been a seminal figure in the field of the reception of classical literature and ideas, and is the author of important studies such as Virgil's Aeneid: Cosmos and Imperium (Oxford, 1986), Ovid's Poetics of Illusion (Cambridge, 2002), editor of the Cambridge Companions to Ovid, and co-editor of the Cambridge Companion to Lucretius and of Classical Literary Careers and their Receptions (Cambridge, 2010). Together with Patrick Cheney he is currently co-editing The Oxford History of Classical Reception in English Literature.
