UCD School of English, Drama and Film

Throughout its history, UCD has been deeply involved in the progress of Irish literary affairs and today is ranked in the top 100 in the world for the subject of English Language and Literature (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015). The School is rooted in a unique tradition which draws inspiration from the many internationally acclaimed Irish authors who were educated at UCD (writers such as James Joyce, Kate O’Brien, Mary Lavin, Flann O’Brien, Colm Tóibín, Roddy Doyle, Emma Donoghue and Joseph O’Connor).

The School’s programmes in English, Drama and Film are informed by high-impact, innovative research, and provide students (from undergraduate to postdoctoral) with high level skills in interpreting and understanding cultural artifacts. We offer degrees in English, Drama, Film, and Creative Writing (MA/MFA).
