Licensees
The Commercial office manages over 30 licenses both on Belfield and Blackrock Campus and in Newman House. A cross section includes Post Office, various catering contractors and the bookshop among others. Other licensees are managed by the Sports and Student Centre and a list of all licensees is attached.
A license is required in order to bind all parties to certain trading conditions, which must include all necessary insurances. In addition, a license fee is required to cover administrative costs and to provide a reserve fund to finance the refurbishment of facilities.

Other activities
The Commercial office welcomes the support given to it by the various Colleges and Schools by facilitating the use of rooms for private hire.
In consideration of this the Commercial Office reserves a percentage of the revenue to fund small schemes. Examples of such schemes to date include new audiovisual equipment for a theatre, seating for a classroom, the decoration of a classroom and a student break out area. If you have a small scheme that could be brought to fruition by some additional funding, why not contact the Commercial Office and we will be pleased to give it due consideration.
The social fund has been established in support of UCD’s strategic plan, which seeks to create a world-class, student-focused environment to support the holistic development of students.
The fund is aimed at facilitating residents coming together, to encourage them to mix and relax with each other, and so ease the transition to University, and life in residences and in doing so also promote a residential environment, which is conducive to academic achievement, personal growth and respect for the rights of all residents.
Any current resident of UCD accommodation, supported by two other residents or a Student Union representative, may apply for a social fund grant. Your idea should initially be discussed with your residential assistant or the residences administrator before completing the form.
The Commercial Office has proudly sponsored UCD Sinfonia, UCD Choral Scholars and UCD Drama Society. If you are seeking support, contact us and we will give consideration to your request.
