PhD Studentship: Cancer Biology

Location

School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Sciences, UCD Conway Institute

Description

Applications are invited from highly motivated graduates of biochemistry, pharmacology, genetics or related biomedical discipline for a postgraduate position in the area of inflammation and cardiovascular disease. The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of researchers investigating the role of prostacyclin and its receptor within the vasculature. The research will be carried out in the laboratory of Prof. B. Therese Kinsella in the School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science located within the Conway Institute.

Through recent research, Prof. Kinsella’s team has made a number of important discoveries demonstrating that expression of the prostacyclin receptor is regulated by the female hormone estrogen.  The main aim of the study will be to investigate the mechanisms regulating expression of the prostacyclin receptor within the vasculature, with the view of understanding how dysregulation of that expression may influence inflammatory processes that contribute to cardiovascular disease.

Qualifications

Candidates should graduates with  a 2.1 or higher honours primary degree in biochemistry, genetics, pharmacology or a related biomedical subject.  Applications from M.Sc students will also be accepted.
