Date: 12 December 2017

Venue: UCD Conway Lecture Theatre

Time: 12 noon

Speaker: Dr Ian Macaulay, Earlham Institute

Title: 'Single Cell Genomics – decoding living systems one cell at a time'

Abstract: Developments in single cell genomics have enabled the analysis of the genomes, epigenomes and transcriptomes of individual cells from complex multicellular tissues and organisms. In this talk I’ll give an overview of the technologies available, including protocols for parallel sequencing of DNA and RNA from the same cell, and demonstrate how they are applicable in biomedical research and beyond.

Biography: Dr Iain Macaulay is a group leader at the Earlham Institute in Norwich, where he develops tools for next generation sequencing of single cells, using questions in developmental and hematopoietic stem cell biology to motivate technology development. Previously he has worked at UCD (with Patricia Maguire), the University of Oxford and the Sanger Institute.

Refreshments available outside the lecture theatre from 11.40am
