Title: 'BioEngineering next generation medical products'

I head a product-focussed research team developing novel technologies (therapeutic and diagnostic) for use in medicine. Primary focus is on the development of microbes as cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, and interests include Synthetic Biology; associations between bacteria and cancer; and entrepreneurship.

Worked for a number of years at various international institutions (Los Angeles, Boston, Copenhagen) and published extensively in the fields of biological engineering and medicine. Vice Secretary General of the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy of Cancer (ISCGT); Vice-President of the Irish Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (ISGCT), and member of the editorial board of several international journals (Scientific Reports; Human Gene Therapy, Current Gene Therapy, Molecular Therapy - Oncolytics, Bioengineered, Biomarkers in Cancer). My group's work is funded by grants awarded from the EU, Science Foundation Ireland, Health Research Board, Irish Research Council and the Irish Cancer Society.
