Grant Thornton Corporate 5k Team Challenge
The inaugural Grant Thornton Corporate 5k Team Challenge is a joint venture between Athletics Ireland and Grant Thornton designed to encourage social running among employees from Dublin business communities. Nearly 450 teams, comprising 1700 individuals competed in the event around Dublin Docklands on Thursday, September 6th 2012.
Two teams from UCD Conway Institute competed very successfully in the event with the Conway Tigers team coming home in 5th place in the mixed category from over 230 teams and two of our runners finishing in 7th place in the men's and women's races.
Event ambassador; Olympian and former London Marathon winner Catherina McKiernan, officially started the race and was also the first woman home overall in a time of 17.14 minutes. McKiernan said “The spirit of the event was fantastic. It was a welcoming sight to see so many runners complete the course, while also managing to enjoy themselves at the same time”.
The teams consisted of Claire Robinson, Aidan Boland, Maike Jurgens, Dan Dowling, Roisin Neary, Dara Lundon, Paddy O'Leary, Leona Connolly pictured left to right below.
About Conway Tigers
Conway Tigers is the Tag rugby team from the Conway Institute! What ever your skill level, even if you've never picked up a rugby ball before, this is a great sport to keep fit, meet people and have a bit of a laugh. Teams are made of 7 people, usually 4 guys and 3 girls, with another 6 for subs. The Tigers compete in tag rugby leagues in UCD throughout the year, rain or sunshine, and also in other sporting and adventure events including the Dublin Port Tunnel Annual Run, Grant Thornton Corporate 5k Team Challenge and Hell & Back - Ireland's Toughest 10K Challenge.
