2011 ISAC Scholar award
Dr Alfonso Blanco has received the 2011 ISAC Scholar award from the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry. The five-year ISAC scholarship programme is designed to enhance the scientific and leadership potential of emerging leaders in this specialist field. It will provide valuable training and mentoring opportunities for the five new awardees.
Dr Blanco (pictured right) established the flow cytometry core facility in UCD Conway Institute after his appointment in 2004. He is the founder member and president of the Irish Cytometry Society in addition to being a founder member of the European Cytometry Network. He is involved in the design and implementation of various cytometry education and training programmes as well as organising national and international cytometry meetings and conferences such as the 11th European Clinical Cytometry meeting, which will take place in the Convention Centre Dublin during September 2011.
There are now a total of seventeen ISAC scholars from universities and institutes across Saudi Arabia, Iran, Australia, USA, Singapore, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Ireland.
