Proteomics Mass Spectrometry Research Grant competition winner

Professor Stephen Pennington, UCD School of Medicine & Medical Science, UCD Conway Institute and Dr. Michelle Cilia from the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service were joint winners of the Integromics 'Proteomics Mass Spectrometry Research Grant' competition, for the creative use of Integromics' OmicsHub(R) proteomics solution.

Integromics, a market leader in IT solutions for life sciences in the field of genomics and proteomics, organise the innovative competition as part of their commitment to promote proteomics research in life sciences. Entrants to the competition had to submit how they would use Integromics' software. The two main judgment criteria were the most creative use of the software, and the project that would create the most interesting science.

From 50 applicants, 12 were shortlisted, with two final winners, who will both receive a free one year license to OmicsHub Proteomics from Integromics.

The UCD research proposal aims to build a mass spectrometry clinical utility to discover and develop protein biomarkers assays to establish disease and clinical decision from patient samples. Dr Peadar O'Gaora will set up the software for use in the UCD Conway core facility.

According to Professor Pennington, the OmicsHub Proteomics license will allow him to address both the data management and analysis of the proposed research by providing a single solution that integrates the protein identification and quantification steps onto a single platform for the mass spectrometry facilities.
