Confocal Microscopy

Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) is a technique for obtaining high-resolution optical images. The key feature of the technique is the ability to acquire serial or 'optical' sections of the samples, which are free from 'out-of-focus' blur. Using digital imaging techniques, these serial images can be reassembled to form 3D representations of the structures being studied, which have been labelled with fluorescent markers.

Services:

Assisted Image Acquisition Session

Full technical support is provided to the researcher and images acquired on their behalf with the researcher present throughout.

Confocal Microscopy Introductory Training Course

A short two day, 'hands on' training course which introduces the basic principles of confocal microscopy and the optimisation of the system to acquire high quality, quantitative and qualitative images.

Image Acquisition

The Zeiss 510UV Meta microscope may be booked by trained researchers who wish to work on the instrument independently. The minimum time the instrument may be booked for is 1 hour up to a maximum of 3 hours during normal working hours (depending on demand). Extended session times may be booked after 5pm each day or over the weekends.
