Fluorescent Light Microscopy

Non-confocal fluorescent microscopy can be very advantageous to the vast majority of projects. With little loss in quality in comparison to confocal microscopy, it provides faster and cheaper day-to-day images of thin tissue sections and flat cells such as endothelial cells. For thicker samples, confocal microscopy is more beneficial.

Applications:

Immunofluorescence of fixed cells and tissue sections. Single, double, triple or quadruple detection is possible with DIC or phase contrast to see shapes. Inverted microscopes can be upgraded for live cell studies. However, it is important to choose the correct excitation/emission filter to match the dye properties (SpectraViewer).

Services:

Image Acquisition

The Zeiss fluorescent microscope may be booked by trained researchers for independent image acquisition for periods from 0.5- 3 hours.

Fluorescent Microscopy Training

A 2 hour 'hands on' training course will introduce you to the basic principles of fluorescent microscopy and skills in image acquisition, processing and storage based on your individual requirements.

Fluorescent Microscopy Assisted Session

This is a one-off session for external users who wish to acquire and process top quality images for publications but who do not require a training course.

Image Analysis

Post-acquisition image processing, analysis and storage are at least as important as the acquisition.
