Live Cell Microscopy

Biological imaging encompasses both fixed cells and tissue sections through to live cells and vivo acquisition. Isolated live cells under physiological conditions are studied under the microscope in time-lapse mode using GFP and other fluorescent proteins.

Applications:

Active intracellular transport and diffusion of macromolecules, protein-protein interaction, direct study of cell cycle, local biochemical studies. It can be combined with TIRF for cell surface studies, FRET and FLIM for protein interrelations, FRAP, high throughput, spectroscopy or followed by electron microscopy for CLEM.

Services:

Live Cell Imaging Assisted Session

Designed to troubleshoot imaging problems; troubleshoot sample preparation problems; help UCD scientists to acquire and process top-quality images for publications; help external scientists to acquire and process top-quality images for publication.

Image Acquisition

Any available Zeiss epifluorescent or Nikon laser confocal spinning disc microscope may be booked by trained researchers for independent image acquisition for between 1 and 4 hours. Longer sessions are available after 6pm or on weekends.

Image Analysis

Post-acquisition image processing, analysis and storage are at least as important as the acquisition.

Live Cell Imaging Training

A 4 hour 'hands on' training course will introduce you to the basic principles of live cell microscopy and skills in image acquisition, processing and storage based on individual requirements.
