Research Interests

Characterisation of the signalling and function of the TPa and TPb isoforms of the human thromboxane (TX) A₂ receptor within the vasculature, including of their role in regulating vascular haemostasis & blood vessel tone, and in regulating various-associated cardiovascular diseases. Investigation of the role of the TXA₂-regulated pathway in the process of metastasis of primary cancers to secondary sites through the regulation of RhoA-associated pathways by TPa and TPb. Application of proteomic approaches to identify novel pathways, and potential pharmacologic targets, that are regulated by TPa and/or TPb isoforms. Synthesis and detailed pharmacological evaluation of novel antagonists that selectively target the TPa and/or TPb isoforms for development of novel anti-thrombotic and/or anti-metastatic agents for the treatment of thrombosis and/or cancer. Identification of the key factors regulating the transcriptional expression of TPa and TPb isoforms, with a primary focus within the vasculature. Similar approaches to the above are also employed to investigate the expression and function of the prostacyclin receptor or, in short, the IP, within the human vasculature. These studies include identification of novel protein interactants of its receptor, the IP, that contribute to the role of prostacyclin and of the IP in the process of vascular repair with the view to exploiting those pathways to develop new approaches/targets for the treatment of vascular disease.
