I am currently working on the role of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) producing enzymes in innate immunity. We are investigating the processes involved in the infection of epithelial cells by Campylobacter Jejuni. Specifically how the ROS triggered by the epithelium during infection alters the bacterial inner signaling. The ROS exposed C. jejuni  undergo a change in tyrosine phosphorylation that translates into a change in it’s capsular polysaccharide phenotype. This mechanism is a novel early defense system in gastrointestinal immunity.
