UCD Conway education hero

Shaping minds

Graduate students are at the heart of research in UCD Conway. In the first 10 years of the Institute opening in 2003, over 700 PhD candidates trained to the highest standards. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our research ethos, Conway students experience research across different disciplines and are inspired by leading scientific experts from many fields, particularly through our weekly seminar series (CLASS). Exposure to advanced technologies means our students acquire expertise in emerging research techniques allowing them to conduct research of the highest impact and to exacting international standards. The suite of educational courses available to students provides them with core skills essential for success in laboratory-based graduate research programmes and transferable to further graduate research and employment.

Developing excellent careers

From the original investment by the Government that funded 16 research fellowships for new interdisciplinary collaborative research projects, UCD Conway is now home to 120 postdoctoral and research fellows; making it Ireland’s largest postdoctoral training facility. The international flavour of the institute is boosted by the fact that over 50% of the 350 early career researchers who have trained here in the past decade came from abroad. The high quality training received has led to many Conway postdoctoral alumni being appointed to prestigious positions in academic institutions and industry around the globe.
