rapid growth of the Web has focused the
attention of sofware development like no
other phenomenon. Web-ready and
Web-enabled applications are becoming the
norm, and XML itself was designed
explicitly for use on the Web.
XML, like SGML, has a far wider
applicability than originally envisaged.
Should we (or can we) restrict the
development effort to Web-based use? Is
there a role for more than just
individual effort in pursuing other
fields for XML? And in concentrating on
the Web, have we failed to take account
of some of these other areas?
