UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular & Biomedical Research presents AccesScience ‘07 in O’Reilly Hall, University College Dublin at 7pm on Tuesday, February 27th 2007. Six postgraduate research students including two from the CSCB will battle it out in the grand final of this competition to explain their research without using scientific jargon. Draw your own conclusions about how to prevent skin cancer cells growing out of control, the sugar shuttle in diabetes and stopping the cutting machine in HIV.

Pat Kenny will be in the Chair on the night and the students will come under the scrutiny of a celebrity judging panel that includes singer/songwriter, Juliet Turner; Olympic medal winner, John Treacy; Nick Kelly, lead singer with ‘The Fat Lady Sings’ and Nuala Carey, RTE weather presenter.

Presentations to prize-winners will be made at a reception following the competition. Admission to the evening is free and all are welcome.

Winners in the adult, primary and secondary school categories of the associated poster competition for the best visual presentation of ’21st century science’ will be announced on the night. Their posters will be displayed on DART trains and stations as part of the Science Track series, a joint initiative between Iarnroid Eireann and UCD Conway Institute.

AccesScience ‘07 is sponsored by Discover Science & Engineering, Merck Sharpe & Dohme, Allied Irish Bank and the Biochemical Society.
