Event: Science Speak 2008

Date: Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Time: 19:00

Venue: RDS

Postgraduate students' ability to explain complex scientific ideas in everyday English will be under the microscope at the RDS, when students from the country's seven universities compete in the Science Speak 2008 competition.

This unique inter-varsity event will take place again this year and will once
more be a joint initiative organised by the RDS and The Irish Times in
association with Irish Universities Promoting Science. It involves all seven of
the Republic’s Universities and challenges science graduate students to
explain their research to a lay audience using ordinary language without the
technical jargon.

Billy Fleming, PhD student at the CSCB, will be representing UCD with his presentation on "The Nature of Chemistry". Billy was the winner of UCD Conway Institute's AccesScience '08.

Admission to the event is free but places must be booked in advance.
