AccesScience '09 - CSCB internal heat

The CSCB internal heat for AccesScience ’09 was held on 20th February 2009 in the CSCB Seminar Room. The five entrants were: Enda Carey from UCD School of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Mariangela Ceruso from UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science and Sabrina Devereux, Petrica Dulgheru and Noel McLaughlin from UCD School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology.

The objective of AccesScience, which is open to 3rd-year PhD students, is for the researcher to explain their research without scientific jargon to a non-scientific audience. Each speaker gave a 7-minute presentation with 3 minutes for questions. The judges were Ciara O’Hanlon from the UCD Science Programme Office and Emma Kavanagh from UCD Research.

The winner of the heat was Sabrina Devereux, a PhD researcher with Dr Francesca Paradisi, CSCB and UCD School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, with her talk entitled "What a waste???" Sabrina will go on to represent the CSCB at the AccesScience ’09 final in O’Reilly Hall on 26th March.
