The UCD Centre for Sports Studies is committed to the University’s internationalisation strategy and provides opportunities for BSc Sport and Exercise Management students to study abroad for a maximum of two semesters in a variety of international destinations and welcomes students from around the world to study on site in Dublin.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CSS STUDENTS
Students registered to the BSc in Sport and Exercise Management are encouraged to study abroad at one of the Centre's partner institutions. We have agreements with a number of universities around the world and can structure an academic programme to complement your current degree programme.

Why should I study abroad?
Studying overseas is a wonderful opportunity to live in another country for an extended period of time, allowing you to experience another educational system whilst enjoying the sights and sounds of your new surrounds. You will mix with local students, integrate into a new culture and broaden your horizons, all whilst earning credit towards your UCD degree.
Despite the amazing experiences you will have, studying abroad is not simply an educational or social experience and has valuable outcomes for your later careers. A CV that includes an international experience demonstrates to employers that not only have you a degree, but you have a global outlook and experience living overseas.

Do I gain credit for my overseas studies?
Students studying on exchange for a semester typically gain credit towards their UCD degree if their modules have been preapproved by the Programme Director in advance.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the UCD Centre for Sport Studies Exchange Programme, students must be registered full-time in the BSc programme and will normally have:
- completed Stage 1 of the BSc Sport and Exercise Management at UCD (60 credits)
- achieved at least an academic average GPA of 3.0 (C+ average)
Further criteria include the number of applications received, the number of places available, your personal statement and letters of support from your personal referees.
Fees and Costs
Students studying on exchange at one of UCD’s partner institutions do not pay tuition fees at the host institution. You simply register at UCD and pay your registration fee to UCD as normal. Before applying to study abroad, you need to consider whether you have sufficient funds to support you whilst you are away. The cost of living varies considerably for different countries and you will be responsible for your travel costs, accommodation, meals, living costs, health insurance, academic materials (such as textbooks) and spending money. Living costs can range from €4,000 to €6,000 per semester.

To apply for this programme, you will need to contact Dr Tara Magdalinski for a copy of the CSS Exchange Programme Application form, which much be completed and submitted together with a copy of your academic transcript and signed statements (max 1 page) from two personal referees. STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Centre for Sport Studies welcomes undergraduate students from around the world to study for a semester or year as part of its international programme and graduate students to enrol in research or taught Master’s or the doctoral programme.
Graduate Opportunities for International Students

Eligibility for International Graduate Students
Students whose education prior to university level has NOT BEEN CARRIED OUT THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF ENGLISH must satisfy the following English language requirements:
- a minimum score of 6.5 IELTS (minimum of 6.0 in each band) is required for ALL graduate programmes
Two programmes have been developed to assist students meet this standard:
1) One month English language reinforcement programme prior to commencement of MSc
2) Access to a 3+1+1 programme providing in-depth English language instruction prior to the commencement of MSc

Undergraduate Study Abroad
Sport is a multi-billion dollar global industry and studying abroad in the UCD Centre for Sports Studies offers students the exciting opportunity to broaden their knowledge and experience of the management and delivery of international sport, fitness and exercise. Students can choose from a wide variety of modules from areas of specialisation in sport management, exercise management and coaching management, sport studies and sports development, as well as becoming involved in the over fifty sport and recreational clubs and societies on campus. We work closely with your academic advisors to develop a programme that will complement and earn credit for your current degree.

Am I eligible to study at UCD?
Undergraduate students should have at least a 3.0 grade point average and will normally have completed four semesters at their home institution. Students whose first language is not English and who have not been schooled in the medium of English will need to fulfil the University's English language requirements.
What can I study?
Study Abroad students are free to select from a wide range of modules offered by the Centre for Sports Studies, subject to timetabling, availability and prerequisites. Every effort is made to ensure you are able to register to the modules that will best complement your undergraduate degree.
Study Abroad students may enrol in a maximum of 30 ECTS per semester.

How am I assessed?
All modules within the Centre for Sports Studies are assessed by both in-course continuous assessment (research assignments, group projects or mid-term exams) and a final examination. Final exams are scheduled in December and May, and international students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with University regulations. Please note that the timetabling of exams cannot be altered owing to personal circumstances, such as booked travel.
Do I gain credit towards my degree at home?
Whether or not you receive credit for your degree at home is entirely at the discretion of your home institution. We are more than happy to provide information on individual modules, as well as formal academic transcript at the end of the semester, to facilitate credit transfer, however, we strongly advise you to seek advice, approval and confirmation from your academic advisor before registering to modules at UCD. To this end, we are happy to provide descriptive information or a copy of the module outline (syllabus) to support your application for credit. At the end of the semester, UCD will send an official transcript to your home institution, which lists the modules you have taken and the grades you have been awarded.
How much does it cost?
Study abroad fees are €6,800 per semester. The fee includes tuition, the International Student Orientation programme as well as an exciting cultural programme arranged by the UCD International Office. The fee does not include accommodation nor personal expenses.
The following guide is an approximate estimate of living costs per semester. Costs will of course vary according to your personal lifestyle:
Rent/Utilities: €2,000
Food: €1,500
Books: €500
Miscellaneous: €750.
Other costs should be taken into account such as telephoning home, post, stationery, laundry, toiletries, travel during holidays and other personal expenses. Unfortunately, there are no scholarships available to support study abroad students at this stage.

Is there a cultural programme for international students?
One of the essential elements of the study abroad experience at UCD is for international students to fully understand and appreciate the richness of Irish society and culture. The Centre for Study Abroad offers a comprehensive cultural experience that provides study abroad students the opportunity to learn about Irish culture though a series of excursions and field trips in Dublin and across the island of Ireland. The country's rich and complex history has left a remarkably artistic legacy, and modern Ireland continues to be a global centre of artistic and cultural excellence.

Full year or Semester 1 (fall semester): 1 May
Semester 2 (spring semester): 1 October
In addition to completing the UCD on-line application, a transcript of academic record to date, a letter of recommendation from an academic referee and a personal statement (max 1 page) should be sent before the due date to the address below.
