Migration - in our DNA?

12/02/2020

In this lunchtime fireside, Dr Magda Resano of Barcelona University gives a brief history of human migration from a genetic perspective and asks: Are we a migrant species? From our origins, humanity has spread out across the world, our travels and settlements documented by scientific evidence in the fields of archaeology, historical linguistics and anthropology. In recent decades advances in the field of human genetics have enabled us to accurately trace human migration and demographic distribution. Drawing on this emerging body of research, this lecture explores whether extinct human species were primarily migrant - and whether this constant need to migrate is genetic.
