PROGRAMME

At Foundation Level, the following courses are usually available:
- Stage, Language, Conventions, Audiences (Semesters 1 and 2);
- Irish Dramatic Renaissance (Semester 1);
- The Director and Performance (Semester 2);
- A weekly tutorial (essay writing and text analysis).

Second Level typically includes a mix of Core and Option courses, on topics such as:
- 20th Century European Theatre;
- Contemporary Irish Drama;
- Gender, Identity and Performance;
- Expressionism;
- Theory in Drama and Performance, 1;
- Shakespeare on Film;
- Aspects of Performance: Directing and Playwriting.
- Choreography and the Body.
- Space in the Theatrical Event


Third Level typically includes a mix of Core and Option courses, on topics such as:
- Theory in Drama and Performance, 2.
- Post-war British Theatre.
- Special author studies (Pinter; Churchill; Beckett).
- Comedy / Farce.
- Drama in Education and Augusto Boal.
- Radio Drama.
- Theatricalities.
- Beckett in Performance.
- Playwriting and Directing.
- Theatre, Society and Cultural Policy.
- Research Project
Guest Speakers and Theatre Practitioners are invited from time to time to discuss their work in the professional theatre.

Assessment
Written and oral examinations; course essays; class papers; continuous assessment.
