Meyerhold Directing: 25-27 March 2004
Vsevolod
Meyerhold (1874-1940) is one of the
giants of modern European directing. His legacy is complex and
far-reaching.
His ideas, teachings, writings and practice have influenced the modern
theatre
profoundly. This programme of events aims to explore aspects of
Meyerhold’s
practice through practical and theoretical work.
Please note:
places for the workshops are strictly limited while the lecture by
Prof. Edward Braun, a world authority on Meyerhold, is open to the
public. All events will take place on the UCD Blackrock Campus,
Carysfort Ave.
European
Theatre in Translation Conference
Project Arts Centre, Dublin, 7th — 10th January 2004
The conference was organised conjointly by UCD Drama Studies Centre,
The Abbey Theatre, Project Arts Centre and the Scène Nationale
d'Orléans (Atelier Européen de Traduction). It was attended by
professional theatre translators from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy,
Greece and Romania.
There were three public events:
Wednesday 7th January, 7.45 pm, public lecture by Dr Katja Krebs,
University of Glamorgan: Translation, Culture and Identity.
Thursday 8th January, 6.30 pm, readings from work in progress by two
Irish playwrights: Ursula Rani Sarma, The
Exchange; Vincent Wood, Deirdre.
Friday 9th January, 6.30 pm, readings in English translation from three
continental European plays: Il
Camino del Cielo by Spanish playwright Juan Mayorga; Music-hall by French playwright
Jean-Luc Lagarce;
Fabbrica by
Italian playwright Ascanio Celestini.
The Spanish playwright Juan Mayorga came to Dublin for the event.
