Collaborations
Architecture is a collaborative activity and the School of Architecture follows suit by working closely with a wide range of other disciplines, institutions, public bodies, communities and industrial partners. Collaborations take many forms – from shared projects and taught modules in our undergraduate and graduate programmes to funded research activity, workshops, summers schools and more.
Within UCD, the school shares teaching and research activity with many other schools and research institutes including the School of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, School of Mechanical and Material Engineering, School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy, School of Art History & Cultural Policy, School of Archaeology, School of Social Justice, School of Languages and Literatures, School of Education, Clinton Institute of American Studies, UCD Earth Institute, UCD Energy Initiative and SMARTlab.
Since 2003, the School’s B.Sc and B.Arch/M.Arch have also run at the CESUGA School in La Coruna, Galicia, Spain.
The School has been centrally involved in the development of the alliance between UCD and the National College of Art and Design. A number of shared modules have been running at graduate level, with more opportunities for electives and shared programmes and graduate courses developing. Access to the facilities, spaces and staff of NCAD are a great benefit to our students.
The School is involved in projects with the Royal Irish Academy, with the OPW, with Dublin City Council, South Dublin, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and Fingal County Councils, and with numerous local authorities and community groups, notably the Camphill Community in Callan. In Callan we have been involved in design projects, in built experiments, and through staff, students and graduates, with the Commonage Festival.
The School has been involved in numerous international workshops, shared studios, competitions and is always looking for opportunities to extend its collaborative activities.
Through its research it has established a wide and diverse range of partnerships and collaborations with universities and instates throughout Europe and the world.
