Electronics laboratory
The highly versatile electronics laboratory is used for teaching throughout all stages of electronic engineering. This facility enables clear consolidation of theory studied in lectures through its practical application.
36 work stations are equipped with a full suite of testing and measurement equipment:
- Oscilloscope
- Digital multi-meter (measures voltage, current, resistance and checks continuity)
- Analogue voltmeter (for measuring voltage) and ammeter (for measuring current)
- Variable DC power supply
- PC
Electrical machines laboratory
The Electrical Machines Laboratory enables students to gain “hands-on” experience with rotating machines, power electronic devices and transformers. This facility is crucial to the education of engineers to meet Ireland’s energy challenges in the years ahead.
High voltage laboratory
High-voltage systems are central to the transmission of power from generating stations (conventional and renewable) to population centres and remote consumers. The high-voltage laboratory, housed in the UCD Energy Centre building, contains specialised equipment that can generate the same high-voltages used in the everyday transmission and distribution of power. It is used for Research as well as Teaching (demonstration) purposes.
