Prospective Students Enjoy UCD School of Architecture Open Day
UCD School of Architecture was delighted to open its doors on Saturday, 14 January 2012 to over 120 sixth year / mature students who are interested in studying Architecture (DN100) or Landscape Architecture (DN120) at UCD.
UCD Engineering Student Wins Lecture Review Competition
Miriam Bourke, a second year UCD Electrical and Electronic Engineering student has won the competition to review Prof. Michael Kelly’s lecture on 'Engineering Research for Economic Growth' (the second in the Intel Lecture Series on Engineering Research & Innovation, organised by the Irish Academy of Engineering (IAE)) which was delivered last December in UCD.
‘Makes you think!’ - UCD Images of Research Winner
The UCD College of Engineering & Architecture is delighted that Dr Ian Reid, in the UCD School of Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering and PhD student Badar Rashid, in the UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering have been announced as the overall winners of the 2011 UCD Images of Research competition.
Toyota & UCD Partner Again on Prius Plug-in Hybrid Trials
Toyota Ireland is again partnering with UCD to gain further insights into the real life usage of Prius Plug-in Hybrids on Irish roads prior to the introduction of the vehicle later this year. Since last year, three Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles have been on Irish roads as part of a global trial programme, and much valuable feedback and suggestions have been received which have assisted in shaping the final version of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid.
NovaUCD 2012 Start-Up Award Winners
PurOrigin, a new venture, founded by ME Energy Systems graduates Finbarr Maguire and David Ronan, which is focused on designing and developing novel, energy efficient domestic appliances, has won the NovaUCD 2012 Start-Up Award.
UCD Architecture Yearbooks added to the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago
UCD Architecture was delighted to present a complete set of its recent yearbooks to The Art Institute of Chicago. On a recent visit to Dublin, Institute Curator of Design, Ms. Zoe Ryan expressed an interest in the books, which provide a window into architecture education in Ireland between 2008-2012 and include the special centenary edition, UCD Architecture 100. The Art Institute of Chicago, which is the second largest art museum in the United States, is renowned for its collection of 18th to 21st century books on architecture.
Senior Chinese Diplomats Visit UCD School of Biosystems Engineering
On 20 October 2012, a large delegation from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Ireland, led by Ambassador His Excellency Mr. LUO Linquan and his wife Mrs. Qiao Li, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission Mr. WU Lijun and his wife, First Secretary (Consular and Administration) Mr. LI Chengyuan, First Secretary (Science and Technology) Mr. YANG Zhijun and First Secretary (Culture) Ms. HUANG Fei, visited the UCD Food Refrigeration and Computerised Food Technology Centre (FRCFT). The event consisted of a research seminar followed by experimental demonstrations of some leading food processing technologies developed by UCD FRCFT.
UCD Earth Institute Industry Showcase Day
UCD Earth Institute hosted a very successful Industry Showcase Day on the 6th November 2012. During the course of this day, Professor OBrien talked about 'Smart Cities and Infrastructure' and 'Research on Bridge Engineering'.
Excellence in Education Award – MSc in Bioengineering
Postgraduate course, the M.Sc. in Bioengineering, received the Engineers Ireland Education Prize at the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards on Friday 9th November 2012.
